China jewelry maker looks East

TOKYO (CBS.MW) -- LJ International isn't
that well known, but if you've bought
jewelry from major retailers like
Wal-Mart or through home shopping
networks, you're probably responsible
for the Hong Kong based company's success
of late...
LJ International swings to profit in Q2
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- LJ
International(JADE) reported
second-quarter earnings of $161,000, or
2 cents per share, up from its year-ago
loss of $7.7 million, or 89 cents per
share. The year-ago results include a
charge of $5.7 million related to an
inventory adjustment. Revenue at the
fine jewelry designer and distributor
jumped 23 percent in the latest to $11.6
million from $9.5 million in the same
period a year earlier.
The company said
revenue rose due to the introduction of
new products, and that it was able to
lower selling, general and administrative
expenses due to corporate restructuring
and tigher cost controls. Jade sees
earnings of $430,000 to $624,000, or 5
to 7 cents per share, on revenue of at
least $14 million in the third quarter.
The stock closed Wednesday at $3.74,
down 9 cents.
